ppelte Lokomotiven Typ Bourbonnais mit Schlepptender der Jura-Simplon-Bahn, gebaut von der Elsässischen Maschinenbaugesellschaft Mülhausen/Mulhouse. Das obere Bild zeigt die Lok 424, die 1875 mit der Nummer 54 für die Jura-Bern-Luzern-Bahn beschafft wurde (fotografiert zwischen 1890 und 1899); auf der neueren unteren Aufnahme ist die ältere Nummer 512 - ehemals 62 "Broye" der Suisse-Occidentale von 1868 - bereits mit SBB-Nummer als De 3/3 3375 festgehalten. Während die 424 schon 1899 ausrangiert wurde, hielt sich die 3375 (ex 512) bei den SBB noch bis 1914.
Der Bourbonnais-Typ war 1855 von der Elsässischen Maschinenbaugesellschaft (André Koechlin & Cie., Mulhouse/Mühlhausen), Werk Grafenstaden, entwickelt und erstmals für die Bahngesellschaft "de Paris à Lyon par le Bourbonnais" (von Paris nach Lyon durch das Boourbonnais - daher der Name) gebaut worden. Trotz der, in der Longboilerbauart mit vor der Feuerbüchse zusammengedrängtem Achsstand und im grossen Überhang begründeten Nachteile wurden Lokomotiven des Bourbonnais-Typs nicht nur für Frankreich in grosser Zahl gebaut; sie fanden auch in der Schweiz, in Italien, Algerien, Russland, Spanien und Portugal Verbreitung. Allein die Eisenbahn Paris-Lyon-Méditerranée (PLM) besass weit über tausend Loks des Bourbonnais-Typs.
Die Jura-Simplon-Bahn (JS) entstand 1890-1891 durch die Fusion der wichtigsten Westschweizer Bahnen (Suisse Occidentale-Simplon, Pont-Vallorbe, Jura-Bern-Luzern-Bahn, ohne die vorher abgespaltene Jura-Neuchâtelois). Das Streckennetz von 937 km Länge führte von Basel, Genf und den Juragrenzübergängen Delle, La Chaux-de-Fonds, Les Verrières und Vallorbe bis nach Luzern, Meiringen und Brig. Obwohl die JS nur 13 Jahre lang bestand, schrieb sie Eisenbahngeschichte, verhalf sie doch den jahrzehntelangen Bemühungen Berns und der Westschweiz um die Vollendung der Westalpentransversale durch den Simplon zum Durchbruch. 1903 wurde sie von den SBB übernommen.
