DescriptionBalfron Station (remains) - geograph.org.uk - 1745903.jpg
English: Balfron Station (remains),
Near to Boquhan, Stirling, Great Britain.
View NE, towards Aberfoyle and Stirling. Lines used to run from Balloch, and from Glasgow by a roundabout route via Lenzie Junction and Strathblane, to Aberfoyle and to Stirling via Kippen, but were early casualties to the buses and the motor car: the line from Balloch and Buchlyvie to Stirling closed (to passengers) as early as 1/10/34, that to Aberfoyle on 29/9/51, but all remained open for goods traffic until 1/10/59. Balfron station was over a mile west of the Balfron village - but right by the A81 road. However, the station was still almost intact here in 1961, and the signalbox apparently still in use - which is strange.
