Public Ledger Building, ca.1870
Benjamin Franklin (circa 1860), Joseph A. Bailly, sculptor.
The statue was initially installed over the entrance to the Franklin Market (1860-1861), at 10th & Ludlow Streets, Philadelphia. When the market was sold in 1869, Cyrus Curtis purchased the statue and installed it on the façade of his Public Ledger Building, at the southwest corner of 6th & Chestnut Streets, Philadelphia.
A bronze replica is exhibited in the lobby of the current Public Ledger Building (1924), on the same site.
