- Other information
Built in 1928-29, the contractor was the Minneapolis firm of the Lovering Co., (later, Lovering & Sons), whose principals had been members of the chapter more than a decade prior. Its style is Elizabethan Revival, of which the building is a masterpiece, utilizing pre-stressed concrete floors and walls early in the introduction of these advanced techniques and materials. The building was designed in 1927 by architect K. Worthen.
In a 4-page summary article of the architectural gems on the University of Minnesota campus, author Bruce N. Wright describes the building: "The entry sits back from the front of the building, fieldstone covers the ground floor and entry approach, the windows are diamond-paned, leaded-casement style, the upper floors are half-timbered, and the roof is slate. Altogether, the effect is of a romantic English-country manor home."[1]
