Summary

Description
English: Oak Beauty Biston strataria. The caterpillar of this moth feeds not only on oak leaves but also on other deciduous trees including birch, lime, hazel and sloe leaves. Common in England and Wales but less frequent in Scotland and Ireland. Its beautiful colouring serves as an excellent camouflage on the lichen covered trunk of an oak tree. In this instance there were two resting on the wall of the house. The best time to notice them is in early spring when they begin to fly.
