"1940–45: Tyskerne overtok fortet som ble forsterket med nærforsvarsstillinger, luftvernstillinger, bunkere m m. Innnledningsvis baserte tyskerne seg på de opprinnelige Armstronggkanonene. Etterhvert rokkerte tyskerne disse mellom de forskjellige anleggene i Trondheimsfjorden, samtidig som de tilførte nye kanoner. Tyskerne laget et primitivt torpedobatteri på Hysnes ved at aktre torpedosats fra jageren «Paul Jacobi» ble satt på en pram. Torpedobatteriet var på Hysnes fra april til august 1940 før det ble satt på Hysneståa. Batteriet ble våren 1945 flyttet til Sørviknes."
