| Description |
English: THIS IS THE SITE OF THE LAST SKIRMISH IN NEW JERSEY IN 1782 AND POSSIBLE THE LAST BATTLE OF THE REVOLUTIONARY WAR. IT OCCURRED BETWEEN AMERICAN PATRIOTS AND AMERICAN LOYALISTS HEADED BY PRIVATEER CAPTAIN JOHN BACON. THESE MEN WERE HIDING IN THE PINELANDS NEAR MANAHAWKIN. A RE-ENACKMENT OF THE BATTLE OCCURS EACH YEAR RIGHT AROUND THE TAVERN. IT IS NOT CERTAIN IF THE TAVERN WAS THERE WHEN THE BATTLE TOOK PLACE BUT THE ROAD WAS A STAGECOACH ROAD VERY EARLY. THE TAVERN IS NOW OWNED BY THE COUNTY |

THIS IS AN INTERESTING SITE TO TRY AND REACH. IT IS LOCATED DEEP IN THE PINELANDS REACHABLE BY TWO LENGTHY PRIMITIVE GRAVEL ROADS- ONE OF WHICH IS LAUREL ROAD WHICH JUNCTIONS B Y A "T" WITH HALFWAY ROAD.
