Nederlands: De NAHV Nieuwe Afrikaanse Handels Vennootschap bestond van 1854 tot 1959
De ontwikkelingsgeschiedenis der N.A.H.V., met haar grote belangen in Belgisch Kongo, is identiek aan die van de O.A.C., Liberia. De pionier van de N.A.H.V. was ook een Rotterdammer, de heer H(endrikus) Kerdijk, (een zwager van de Rotterdammer Pincoffs) die in 1859 een klein zeilschip had ge-charterd, waarmede hij naar de monding van de Congo rivier voer. Dit gebouw van de NAHV stond in het toenmalige Coqhuilhatville, het tegenwoordige Mbandaka. De O.A.C. bleef in Liberia onder eigen naam bestaan terwijl het kantoor in Rotterdam in dat van de N.A.H.V. overging. De "goodwill" in de loop der jaren door deze Nederlandse zaak gekweekt, is na de fusie nog versterkt. De naam O.A.C. is ingeworteld bij de bevolking van Liberia; het kleinste kind kent de ,,Dutch Store" en iedere Liberiaan zal u vertellen, dat de O.A.C;. ,,the oldest established firm" in Liberia is. |
