Nederlands: Foto. Groepsportret van de voltallige familie Ponse. Derde van rechts is Jan Theodoor Ponse, die als planter in Deli werkzaam was. Het jongetje rechts was zijn zoon en heette Hans Toetoengan Ponse. De baby op de arm van de baboe links is Kitty Ponse, "Poppie", die later hoogleraar endrocinologie zou worden in Genève. Het iets oudere meisje, vijfde van links, is Nonnie, zij zou later in New York een conservatorium oprichten.
Men kan zeggen dat met het verdwijnen van de nyai, de inheemse 'huishoudster' van de blanke planter van 'het Cultuurgebied' en met de komst van steeds meer Europese echtgenotes, de Europeanen in Indië eerder minder dan meer geïntegreerd raakten in de inheemse samenleving. Toch zouden deze families een 'Indisch' karakter houden of krijgen door de aanwezigheid van inheems personeel. Op de foto rechts de djongos of huisbediende en links de baboe oftwel het kindermeisje. Voor Europeanen die in Indië geboren waren was (en is) de baboe een halve heilige die de onschuld maar ook de verlokkingen van de Indische kindertijd vertegenwoordigde. (P. Boomgaard, 2001).
