Summary

Description
English: A two-panel cartoon by Jan Rinke, titled "De Minister P. Rink en de melkmeid ult de collectie-Six", both published November 9, 1907, in the Dutch publication Het Vaderland. A 1907 Dutch cartoon by Jan Rinke, reflecting a controversy over whether the government of the Netherlands should purchase Vermeer's "Milkmaid" painting rather than let it possibly fall into the hands of some rich American art collector. In the first panel, Uncle Sam woos the Milkmaid, in the second she walks off with Netherlands politician Pieter Rink (Minister of the Interior at the time), as Uncle Sam looks dejected in the back ground. The Netherlands government bought the work for the Rijksmuseum.
