English: Example of a transgenic HeLa cell expressing H2B-GFP going from G2 through to the end of mitosis. DIC and GFP images are shown every 4 minutes. The phases and designated colour schemes are shown on the right. GFP-H2B images were used to determine the phase of mitosis according to the following criteria: prophase cells contain condensed chromosomes surrounded by an intact nuclear envelope; prometaphase starts with nuclear envelope breakdown; metaphase is when chromosomes align to form the metaphase plate; anaphase starts when the chromosomes begin to separate; telophase commences when chromosomes de-condense. |
