Summary

Description
English: Clay 'frying pan' with incised decoration of a boat among spiral-formed waves and a public triangle above the handle. These vessels are characteristic Cycladic artifacts of wide distribution in the Aegean. They could have served practical purposes as dishes, mirrors, astrolabes, or metric units for salt trading. Their decoration bears symbolic religious or magical meaning suitable for ritual vessels. From Chalandriani on Syros. Early Cycladic II period (Keros-Syros culture) 2800-2300 B.C. Inv. no. 4974. National Archaeological Museum of Athens. Textː Museum inscription.
