Title
"Clelia Grillo Borromeo"
Description
English: So-called Portrait of Celia Grillo Borromeo (1684-1777), but is probably a depiction of Maria Beatrice d'Este, Duchess of Massa (1750-1829).
  • Identification proposed by user Ecummenic (talk) based on the comparison with some portraits of Maria Beatrice d'Este (see images below) and the lack of physical resemblance of the sitter of this portrait to verified representations of Clelia Borromeo. Furthermore, the identification as Celia Borromeo is not sustainable since an analysis of fashion dates the work between 1765 and 1770, when she was over 80 years old, too old to be the lady depicted here.
