| Description |
English: Conceptualized indirect effects of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) on gross primary productivity through interacting effects of DOC impacts on light and nutrient availability in lakes. As DOC load increases, there is a release from nutrient limitation due to load of associated nutrients as well as an increase in light limitation due to the shading effect of DOC in the lake water column. Interactions between lake size and chromophoricity of DOC impacts the light climate experienced by algae at a given DOC loading rate and the ratio of DOC to nutrients (stoichiometry) of the DOC load impacts the nutrient availability at a given DOC loading rate.
