Summary

Description
English: Built in 1909, this Classical Revival-style building was designed by Charles C. Wilson to house the Department of English at the University of South Carolina, and was the first new building to be built after the Civil War. The building was named for Robert Means Davis, who graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1872, and was a professor of history and political economy. The building features a stucco-clad exterior with two-story porticoes with doric columns on the north and south facades with pediments above, hipped roofs, an architrave at the top of the exterior walls with triglyphs, six-over-six double-hung windows, doorways with transoms and decorative trim surrounds, featuring pediments, and arched bays on the first floor. The building is a contributing structure in the Old Campus District, University of South Carolina Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970.
