Summary

Description
English: Decaying hedge. All around Boldron, old field boundaries established by the "Plan and Apportionment for the 1768 Parliamentary Act of Enclosure of Boldron Moor" (Durham County Record Office) are in varying stages of decay as modern agriculture moves to larger fields. In some cases, the existence of a hedge and ditch can no longer be discerned at all (1713699), but in most cases there is at least a hedge-bank and adjoining ditch, and often the odd old hawthorn or bigger tree. This boundary seems to have been one of the more recent to be allowed to fall into disuse, as the hedge is largely complete, though obviously no trimming or laying has been carried out recently and there is no fence left at all.
