Summary

Description

A Douglas AD-6 Skyraider (BuNo 137597) Attack Squadron 65 (VA-65) "Fist of the Fleet" enroute from Naval Air Station (NAS) Alameda to NAS Miramar (both in California, USA), in March 1958. The plane was flown by Lt(jg) Jim Jones. VA-65 was assigned to Carrier Air Group 2 (CVG-2) aboard the aircraft carrier USS Midway (CVA-41) with the next deployment starting on 16 August 1958. VA-65 would be redesignated VA-25 on 1 July 1959.

The AD-6 (A-1H) 137597 would later be transferred to the U.S. Air Force, and would be one of the last 19 Skyraiders turned over to the South Vietnamese Air Force (VNAF) by the 1st SOS in November of 1972.
