Thomas, the son of Dr. Thomas and Matilda (Chandler) Edwards, was born in Keene in 1795. He graduated from Dartmouth in 1813 and read law. He began his practice in Keene in 1817 and continued for about 30 years. He was a NH legislator from 1834-1856 and a U.S. congressman from 1859-1863. He married Mary H. Fiske in 1840 and had 5 daughters and 2 sons. In 1845 he was chosen president of the Cheshire Railroad and in 1869, president of the Ashuelot Bank until his death.
