Description
English: The battle in Wielingen

The Wielingen, the sea passage which runs westwards along the coasts of Holland and Belgium past Cadzand, which is in Dutch territory. and then past Knocke, Heyst, Zeebrugge, and Blankenberghe, which are Belgian. The frontier between Holland and Belgium reaches the shore at a point between Cadzand and Knocke, close to the Zwyn, where an arm of the sea used at one time to run inland, forming the connection between the sea and Bruges. The waters of the Wielingen are undoubtedly Dutch territorial waters till they reach that point on the frontier; and Holland claims also sovereignty over the whole of the Wielingen throughout its course along the coast of Belgium. Belgium claims sovereignty over the Wielingen from the point at which it passes the frontier, as forming part of her territorial waters. The Scheldt and the Wielingen. G. W. T. Omond
