Summary

Description Four U.S. Navy Grumman F9F-6 Cougars of Fighter Squadron 24 (VF-24) "Corsairs" aboard the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown (CVA-10). VF-24 assigned to Carrier Air Group 2 (CVG-2) aboard the Yorktown for a deployment to the Western Pacific from 3 August 1953 to 3 March 1954.
VF-24 was redesignated VF-211 on 9 March 1959. In 1960 the squadron nickname was changed to Fighting Checkmates.
