DescriptionFamily group portrait of Mr and Mrs M Young and family of Waterloo House, Waterford, 1913.jpg
English: Mr & Mrs M. Young and family of Waterloo House, Waterford. This family may have lived at Ballyragget, Co. Kilkenny around 1905. We have another studio portrait of them with four children at that point.
While Waterloo House is apparently long gone, it's great that desmondg47 has identified the location for us. It was "on the northern corner of the junction of Ballytruckle Road and Poleberry in Waterford city."
D.Bishop1 did some investigation on the Youngs in the 1911 online census and came up with great information:
"I believe I have found the same family in Manor street in the 1911 Census. As per census (add 2 yrs to get ages in photo): Matthew Young (41) [Fishmonger]; Mary Anne Young (35); Mary Anne (12); Annie (11); Lizzie (9); Bridget Angela (7); James (5); John (3). Presumably the youngest was not yet born.
All family members are born in Waterford City with the exception of the mother Mary Anne/Marion who was born in Co. Kilkenny which could explain the other photo perhaps? Matthew has a very impressive signature on the census form! Back in the 1901 census they lived at 37 Old Tramore Road. Matthew was a 'Chicken Buyer' with the same impressive signature and they only had the first 2 daughters back then. in the 1901 census Mary Anne (mother) is written as 'Marion'. The 1901 census details are written by Matthew and not by the census taker so I assume that Marion is her correct name - hopefully Matthew would have written his own wife's name correctly! It seems that the census taker misheard 'Marion' as 'Mary Anne' in the 1911 census."
So, all we need now is a name for the youngest child, who was born after the 1911 census!
