English: Overlooked by Durham Castle. The castle was originally built in the 11th century. It has been occupied since 1840 by the University College, and is home to over 100 students. It is open to the general public to visit, but only through guided tours. Durham Castle is jointly designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site with Durham Cathedral.
