DescriptionFulton Ferry Landing sign with historical information.jpg
English: In 2014, the Brooklyn Historical Society created a series of signs marking points of historic significance throughout Brooklyn Bridge Park.[1]
This sign reads, "Before New York State abolished slavery in 1827, this area was home to Brooklyn’s free black community. Peter and Benjamin Croger were among Brooklyn’s first abolitionists and advocated for African-American civil rights. Residents established Brooklyn’s first black church, an 'African School,' and a benevolent society." (Photo gallery of DUMBO, Brooklyn)
