Summary

Description General Wendjebauendjed's Pectoral scarab was found in his burial within the tomb of pharaoh Psusennes I at Tanis, Lower Egypt. Wendjebauendjed was a general who served under Psusennes I during the Twenty-first Dynasty of Egypt. He had the rare privilege of being interred within Psusennes I's NRT III tomb at Tanis with various jewellery, burial equipment and a fine gold funerary mask. This pectoral is today located in the Cairo Museum. The Dynasty 21 Egyptian kings Psusennes I and Amenemope and the later Dynasty 22 king Shoshenq II along with General Wendjebauendjed were all buried in Psusennes I's NRT III tomb chambers beneath the paving of the temple of Amun in Tanis, where they lay forgotten until their rediscovery by Pierre Montet in 1939. Unlike Tutankhamun's tomb which was briefly robbed twice by grave robbers in antiquity, Psusennes I's NRT III totally escaped detection by tomb robbers even while the neighbouring tomb of king Osorkon II at NRT I was plundered by tomb robbers.
