Gopura oriental avec tour à visages de l'enceinte extérieure de Ta Som Les visages représentent Lokeshvara ou Brahma Ta Som était un temple dédié au culte bouddhique du Mahâyâna (Grand Véhicule). Son constructeur est le grand roi Jayavarman VII (1181-1218) Le temple date de la fin du XIIème siècle - début du XIIIème siècle. Il est dans le style du Bayon et comme ce dernier, il comprend des tours à visages. Son nom moderne "Ta Som" signifie "Vieux Som" mais il s'appelait "le joyau de l'éléphant blanc fortuné" (Gaurashri Gajaratna). Il abritait 22 divinités. Ce petit temple était une annexe du grand temple Preah Khan, il a été construit dans l'alignement de ce dernier et du Neak Pean sur le bord oriental du bassin-réservoir (Baray) Jayatataka. Ta Som comprend trois enceintes. L'enceinte extérieure (240m par 200m) comprend deux gopura(s) avec des tours à visages situés à l'est et à l'ouest. A l'intérieur de la première enceinte, des douves entourent la deuxième enceinte du temple qui possède deux gopuras. également orientés à l'est et à l'ouest. Une galerie dotée de quatre gopura(s) et de quatre tours d'angle constitue la troisième enceinte, elle entoure la tour-sanctuaire centrale du temple .
