English: The graves of the mountaineers Dr. Emil Zsigmondy (AT) and Ernest Thorant (FR) on the cemetery of Saint-Christophe-en-Oisans, Hautes Alpes, France. Both men died at the Meije (3.983 m) at the end of the 19th Century. Picture was taken on 17/07/2010, 11:25.
Deutsch: Die Gräber von Dr. Emil Zsigmondy (Österreich) und Ernest Thorant (Frankreich) auf dem Bergsteigerfriedhof von Saint-Christophe-en-Oisans in den zentralen Dauphiné-Alpen in Frankreich (Hautes Alpes). Zsigmondy, nicht einmal 24 Jahre alt, stürzte beim Versuch der Erstersteigung der Meije-Südwand am 6. August 1886 in den Tod, nachdem ihm wenige Tage zuvor mit seinem Bruder Otto und Ludwig Purtscheller die erste Längsüberschreitung desselben Berges gelungen war. Auch Thorant kam an der Meije ums Leben, er starb am 20. August 1896. Die Aufnahme entstand am 17. Juli 2010 um 11:25 Uhr.
