| Description |
English: Guildhall, St Ives, Cornwall, near England. One of St Ives' many Hepworth sculptures is surrounded by floral arrangements. Thomas the Tank Engine in the background had evidently already existed for some years. The foundation stone for this building was laid in 1939. It was designed by E.T. Spashett (later ARIBA) as a 16-year-old apprentice to Cowell Drewitt & Wheatly, Penzance in 1939. Between 1939 and 1941 when he joined the RAF at age 18yrs, he also designed and oversaw the building of the Arwenack Estate of "high class houses" (as then described) in Falmouth, and a new house for Holman (Camborne Engineering) in Carbis Bay. |
