Description
English: A hand-coloured original print showing local dignitaries gathered for a presentation at the Northcote Flagstaff, Northcote Point. Hapi te Pataka stands in the centre, alongside his wife, Whatarangi Ngati of Ngati Puku, Wharekawa, Hauraki. Her father, Haki Hohaia, is sitting in front of them to the right. Standing to the right of Whatarangi is their daughter Takurangi, who married George Graham, the Auckland lawyer and historian (who was present at this ceremony but is not seen in the photograph). The boy sitting in front of Hilditch on the left of the photo is George Graham's son, James Montrose Graham (Identifications and information courtesy of Ron Pai, great great grandson of Hapi).

To the right of Hapi Te Pataka: J. Hawes (in civilian dress with medals) and in uniform, Colour Sgt. Hilditch (ex-Crimea War and Indian Mutiny). Vessels from the visiting American Fleet, which was on a world-wide cruise at the time, are moored in Little Shoal Bay (background). The photographer William Price started publishing postcards in the early 1900s. In 1909-1910 he moved from Wanganui to Queen St, Northcote, and in 1911 moved to Ponsonby, where he remained until his death in 1948. During the 1920s, he ran a photographic studio at 300 Ponsonby Rd. The William Price Collection of negatives is held by the Alexander Turnbull Library.
