English: A greeting card from a Soviet pilot, an aviation captain, in Latvia, end of 1939. Says "Happy New Year of 1940". A name of the Ventspils town is placed in the corner. Most probably the pilot was in the militaty base there as a part of the Soviet force allowed to enter the Latvian soil according with the agreement signed on 5 of October 1939.
Русский: "С Новым 1940 годом". Поздравительная открытка от советского пилота бомбардировщика, капитана ВВС РККА; конец 1939 года, город Вентспилс, Латвия. В условиях начала 2-й мировой войны, правительство Ульманиса 5 октября 1939 года подписало договор о взаимопомощи между Латвией и СССР. Согласно пакту Латвия, в случае нападения или угрозы со стороны третьего государства, получала военную помощь от СССР.
