Summary

Description
English: This image shows a stool culture that has been grown on Hektoen enteric agar and exhibiting two differential traits for two different microbes. The orange color indicates fermentation of lactose, likely from E. coli. The black color produced in some colonies is from the microbial production of hydrogen sulfide from components of the agar, and is often seen in Salmonella spp.
