Summary

Description Monumental memorial tablet of 1866, dedicated to Reverend Canon Joshua Fawcett MA (1807-1864). He was vicar of Holy Trinity, Low Moor, previously known as Wibsey Chapel. The memorial hangs in the north aisle of the church. It was designed by architects Mallinson & Healey, and executed by architectural sculptors Mawer & Ingle of Leeds. Showing an oversized albatross nest complete with protective mother and affectionate babies, on top of monument. It mimics the shape of the traditional pelican vulning herself symbol, which represents the Passion, and personal sacrifice for the sake of caring. Canon Fawcett was famous for his pastoral care, but maybe he also had a sense of humour.
