Summary

Description
English: Photo taken aboard the Irish research vessel Celtic Explorer of a freshly caught Atlantic pelagic basslet, Howella atlantica. The fish is dark black in colour with a blue sheen to its head and jaw, and the eye is large, covered in a thick layer of tissue known as a spectacle. The scales are dark and spinose, and the fish is laid on a measuring board, showing its total length is approximately 10cm.
