Summary
| Description | SR Maunsell Class "Q" 0-6-0 No.30541 gently simmers in rather weak sunshine at Guidlford Shed, awaiting its next turn of duty, 05/63. 30541 was fitted with a Lemaitre exhaust and wide diameter chimney by Bulleid - an example of Bulleid's rather eccentric thinking that he should go to the trouble and expense of fitting such a sophisticated exhaust system to a humble freight 0-6-0. Scanned photograph taken with Brownie 127 - hence doubtful quality. But I think it conveys an image of the then rapidly dying "steam" age and a certain "smoky" atmosphere and that can never be repeated. | |||||||||||||
