Summary
[edit]The return of Elijah and Moses of legend and prophecy occurred on 3 April 1836, when — after the Prophet Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery had knelt in prayer — the Lord Jesus Christ in glory appeared upon the breastwork of the Melchizedek Priesthood pulpits of the Kirtland Temple, attended by the great prophets. Whereupon, Elijah restored the sealing keys to eternally bind the generations of fathers to their children in love, and Moses restored, in turn, the keys for the gathering of scattered Israel. Interior view of the Kirtland Temple breastwork, 1907.
