Le temple Cham ou Kalan est probablement une représentation symbolique de Sikhara, le sommet de la montagne sacrée des Cham, appelé mont Meru dans le brahmanisme. Le mont Meru est la montagne mythique considérée comme l'axe du monde dans la mythologie hindoue.
