Summary

Description U.S. Marine Corps Major Lofton R. Henderson in July 1941. Henderson commanded the Marine scout bomber squadron VMSB-241 on Midway Atoll from 17 April to 4 June 1942. He was killed at the Battle of Midway during an attack on the Japanese aircraft carrier Hiryu, together with his rear gunner Pfc. Lee W. Reininger, flying the Douglas SBD-2 Dauntless BuNo 2192. "Henderson Field" on Guadalcanal was named in his honour.
