El mapa fue preparado para en una reunión en 1623, con vistas a discutir la necesidad de la construcción de una fortaleza cerca de las salinas de Araya, que se encontraban en peligro de ser tomadas por los holandeses.
Nederlands: Kaart van Araya door Andrés Rodríguez de Villegas, gouverneur van Margarita in de 17de eeuw. De kaart werd voorbereid voor een bijeenkomst in 1623, met het oog op de bespreking van de noodzaak van de bouw van een fort bij de Araya-zoutpannen, die door de Nederlanders dreigden te worden overgenomen.
English: Map of Araya by Andrés Rodríguez de Villegas, governor of Margarita in the 17th century. The map was prepared for a meeting in 1623, with a view to discussing the need for the construction of a fortress near the Araya salt flats, which were in danger of being taken over by the Dutch.
