English: Mar 18 1917 A German photographer aboard the Imperial German Navy U-boat SM UC-21 takes these photos, IWM Q 58104 & IWM Q 58312, of the sinking of the 5,225 ton American tanker steamer "Illinois." It was bombed and scuttled by the German submarine in the English Channel 20 nautical miles (37 km) north of Alderney, Channel Islands. Illinois' crew survived the sinking.
