Title
Medieval pendant
Description
English: A medieval cast silver cruciform pendant with the partial remains of niello inlay, dating to the 13th/ 14th century. Although mostly complete the loop has a recent break across it.

The pendant comprises a flat circular plate with four arms equidistant around it. One of these is fore-shortened and terminates in the broken suspension loop.
The central plate is inscribed AG on one side and LA on the other, both within a grooved concentric ring flanking the edge. The A, the tail of the G and the top of the L, along with parts of both concentric ring, retain niello inlay.
The three surviving arms are rectangular/ oval in cross-section, narrowing in width and expanding in thickness to a globular hemispherical terminal knop, flat where it joins the arm and each c.4mm wide. The loop is flat in cross-section, 2.9mm wide above the knop and 2.4mm wide at the break (at the top of the loop). The arm opposite that with the loop bends forwards a little to the 'AG' face.

The object measures 25.7mm in length, 22.0mm in width, 6.9mm in depth (at the loop), 4.1mm in thickness (at the loop) and weighs 2.88g.
