| Description |
English: Minster Pool and the causeway bridge From the Remembrance Garden looking south-west to the causeway bridge, which carries Bird Street. Minster Pool was created in the 12th century when a dam was built at the eastern end of an area of boggy ground. The resulting pool powered a corn mill, provided fish, and formed a line of defence for the cathedral. At this end of the pool an early 14th century causeway bridge divided Minster Pool in half, creating the Bishop's Pool which covered what is now the Museum Gardens. The present bridge was built on top of the original. |
