Momus parade, Mardi Gras season in New Orleans, 1938.


"Momus Parade during Mardi Gras in New Orleans, Louisiana. A horse drawn parade float with African American attendants flanking sides. "

The "attendants" are flambeaux carriers, carrying the torches that traditionally lit night parades before electric lighting, and as part of tradition continued in use with some krewes even after.
