Description
English: The Murasaki Shikibu Diary Emaki (紙本著色紫式部日記絵巻, shihonchoshoku Murasaki Shikibu nikki emaki). This is part of the handscroll located at the Gotoh Museum in Tokyo which consists of three illustrations and three pages of text. Color on paper. The scroll has been designated as National Treasure of Japan in the category paintings. 21.0cm x 48.4cm. Evening of Kankō 5, 11th month, 1st day (December 1, 1008): "Ika-no-iwai" of the Imperial Prince. Drunk and disarranged/confused/disordered court nobles are amused/frolicking/joking/flirting with court ladies. Various facial expressions and appearances giving a life-like impression.
