Summary

Description
English: Ocknell Plain, New Forest. This well-grazed lawn on Ocknell Plain was the site of the western end of the Stoney Cross airfield which was active during the Second World War. The runways were reseeded and the concrete utility roads were taken up, and nowadays the area is popular with animals and tourists alike. In the distance the canopy of the South Bentley Inclosure can be seen - its trees were planted as acorns in 1700 and is believed to be the oldest surviving oak plantation in western Europe.
