Title
English: Old Spokane St. drawbridge looking west, Seattle, Washington, February 27, 1918.
Description
English: On front of image: "4011 2-27-18"

On verso of image: "W. Spokane St. - old wooden swing bridge looking west"
  • Subjects (LCTGM): Swing bridges--Washington (State)--Seattle
  • Subjects (LCSH): Spokane Street (Seattle, Wash.); West Seattle (Seattle, Wash.); Dwellings--Washington (State)--Seattle; Stores, Retail--Washington (State)--Seattle

This is the 1911 bridge that went out of use about that time: note the water mains on either side. After this, West Seattle got water by a different route, and the replacement bridge did not carry water mains. This neighborhood was known at the time as "Riverside". It was east of Pigeon Point. A handful of houses and other older buildings remain there in what is now almost entirely industrial district, but probably none from quite this far back.
