Summary

Description

This plaza, at the northern end of an outdoors shopping mall, has a fountain, a few statues, and other elements to commemorate the 2002 Winter Olympic Games, held here in Salt Lake City.

The Gateway is an outdoor shopping mall in western downtown Salt Lake City, one that would be more appropriate in mild California but a bit surprising in Utah. It incorporates, and is built around, the former Union Pacific Rail Depot building. A block to the south is another former train station, the Rio Grande Building, now housing museum offices. The railroad tracks, and the modern-day Amtrak station hosting trains to San Francisco and Chicago, are a block to the west.
