Summary

Description Built in 1898, this Romanesque Revival-style building was designed by Cutter and Malmgren, and is known as the Peyton Building, and stands at the corner of Riverside Avenue and Post Street. The building saw the addition of an annex in 1908, designed by Robert Sweatt, which stands at the corner of Sprague Avenue and Post Street. The original building features a red brick exterior with rough-hewn stone trim, decorative brick corbeling and patterned brickwork, arched bays at the fourth floor, pyramidal pinnacles, replacement windows, and large first floor bays with cast iron piers and plate glass windows. The annex features a cream-colored buff brick exterior, terra cotta spandrel panels, replacement windows, cornices with dentils and modillions, large first floor bays with plate glass windows and transoms flanked by paneled pilasters, and a decorative trim surround at the arched entrance bay to the second floor, which features a cornice and ionic pilasters. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.
