| Description | A Royal Navy McDonnell Phantom FG.1 of 892 Naval Air Squadron landing aboard the U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN-68) on 12 September 1975. Nimitz had been commissioned on 3 May 1975 and made her first deployment with Carrier Air Wing 8 (CVW-8) to the North Atlantic between 16 July and 24 September 1975. Fighter Squadron VF-31 "Tomcatters" was loaned from CVW-3 for this cruise, but kept its tail code "AC" (CVW-8 has "AJ"), as visible on the F-4J in the background. |
