A gauche, le roi David ordonne la rédaction des psaumes et les chante. A droite, Saint Jérôme reçoit l'ordre du pape de rédiger les psaumes, puis dicte le psautier. Ces ivoires ornaient la reliure d'un psautier écrit, sur l'ordre de Charlemagne, pour le pape Adrien 1er (†795)
