Deutsch: Das Porträt stellt den gebürtigen Schweizer John James Heidegger (auch: Johann Jacob Heidegger) dar. Um 1708 kam er nach London und wurde zwei Jahre später assistierender Direktor des"Queen’s Theatres"am Haymarket. Zwischen 1719 und 1728übernahm er das Direktorenamt der"Royal Academy of Music". Für dieses Opernunternehmen komponierten neben Georg Friedrich Händel auch Giovanni Battista Bononcini und Attilio Ariosti.
Das vorliegenden Porträt wurde 1749 von dem englischen Schabkunststecher John Faber angefertigt ("J. Faber fecit 1749"). Die Vorlage stammt von dem flämischen Maler Jean Baptiste van Loo ("Vanloo pinx.t").Der Theaterdirektor Heidegger ist in der Kleidung seiner Zeit und gemäß seines Standes abgebildet. Sein Gewand ist schlicht und er trägt keinen Schmuck. Der Gesichtsausdruck Heideggers ist sehr streng. Die große, kunstvoll gestaltete Bildunterschrift gibt den vollständigen Namen des Theaterdirektors in der englischen Fassung wieder:"John James Heidegger Esqr.".Zudem ist ein kleiner Hinweis auf den Preis und die Herkunft des Porträts am rechten unteren Bildrand zu finden:"Price 1:6 Sold by Faber at ye Golden Head in Bloomsbury Square.". |
