Italiano: "Giovanni Soranzo (1520 - 1603) fu un importante uomo politico veneziano e uno dei maggiori artefici della Triplice Alleanza tra Venezia, la Spagna e lo Stato Pontificio contro i Turchi, che portò alla vittoria nella Battaglia di Lepanto del 1571. Fu ambasciatore della Serenissima in Spagna nel 1565, in Francia alla corte di Enrico III e a Roma durante il papato di Pio V, Gregorio XIII e Clemente VIII. Bertina Suida Manning identificò per prima il presente dipinto come ritratto di Giovanni Soranzo confrontandolo con altri due ritratti del medesimo modello, uno dei quali, conservato nel Museo di Bernay in Francia, riporta l'iscrizione proprio con il nome di Soranzo. La studiosa data il presente dipinto al 1570 circa, durante il soggiorno dell'ambasciatore veneziano a Roma, come indica la presenza della veduta di Castel Sant'Angelo sullo sfondo." [1]
